Deck Construction

Deck Builders in Westfield and Western Massachusetts

New England weather is hard on decks. Freeze-thaw cycles heave footings, snow load stresses framing and moisture finds every unsealed joint. Westfield Builders builds decks that hold up: properly sized and set footings, correct ledger flashing into the house, and pressure treated, composite or cable rail systems built to your layout. Multi-level decks, stairs, screened porches and hot tub platforms included.

Why Build With Westfield Builders

Built for New England

Decks here take freeze thaw, snow load and road salt. Footings go below frost line and flashing is done so the ledger does not rot the rim joist.

Designed to the House

Stair placement, railing style and board direction get designed against the house and the yard rather than dropped on as a rectangle.

Permitted and Inspected

Decks are structural. Ledger attachment, footing depth, guard height and stair rise are all inspected items, and we build to them.

Material Options Explained

Pressure treated, cedar and composite all make sense in different budgets. We tell you the honest tradeoff rather than pushing one.

What a Deck Build Covers

Site layout, frost depth footings and posts
Ledger attachment with proper flashing at the house
Framing, blocking and joist protection tape
Decking in pressure treated, cedar or composite
Stairs, landings and code compliant guards and handrails
Privacy walls, skirting, benches and planters
Covered porches, roof structures and screened enclosures

Decks We Take On

Replacing a deck that has failed or is no longer safe
New decks off a kitchen, slider or primary bedroom
Multi level decks on sloped Western Massachusetts lots
Pool surrounds and decks built around above ground pools
Covered porches and three season rooms rather than open deck
Our Process

How a Deck Build Runs

1

Site Visit and Design

We look at the grade, the door height and the yard, then lay out a deck that fits how you will actually use it.

2

Permit and Materials

We pull the permit and get materials ordered. You approve decking and railing selections before anything is delivered.

3

Footings and Frame

Footings, posts and framing go in and get inspected before decking covers any of it.

4

Decking and Finish

Decking, stairs, rails and trim, then a final inspection and walkthrough.
